THE BCFA CHRONICLE DEC 2008 |

BCFA 2008 REVIEW |
|
|
So another year has gone and in the usual super quick time. 2008 has
seen some great achievements from the BCFA teams. At the end of the
2007/08 season we saw BSXI grab an unprecedented double winning both the
league and yet another GFA cup, however they were also involved in
perhaps the shock result of the year as Woodlands won the BCFA cup
shootout to deny BSXI the treble. In division 2 BSXI dominated to win
the league and Nailsea finally made it into the 1st Division. We
also saw the emergence of some new teams, BS4, Hillfields and Gordano.
At the start of the 2008/09 season we have seen some interesting scores
and the tables are starting to take some shape. In Division 1 Woodlands
have stepped up to the plate to put pressure on the dominant BSXI,
Widcombe and Thornbury. Nailsea have overcome a rough start to move up
the table while BUCU are finding life difficult as they are rooted to
the bottom. In Division 2 The Sanctuary are the team to beat as they sit
top of the table unbeaten and seemingly unbreakable. SAS are hot on
their heels also unbeaten whilst Rock, Hillfields and Widcombe try and
hang on in there. Gordano are finding it tough but BS4 who failed to
gain a point last season have stormed up the table into a decent mid
place. New boys Kensington, Pistols and Israel have all had up and down
starts. In the GFA BSXI are storming through the rounds beating two of
the favourites on their way to the Quarters and in another GFA cup
Woodlands and Santos are also in the Quarter finals. In the Cups
Woodlands will have to play BSXI in the semis in a repeat of last years
final if they are to retain it and in the Shield BUCU are favourites as
they are the sole remaining 1st Division team.
So what does 2009 have in store for us, Well in Div 1 we can see BSXI Woodlands and Widcombe the likely teams to go on a challenge for the title, relegation wise it is anyone's guess but BUCU need to start getting some points on the board. In Division 2 Sanctuary and SAS have to be favourites to go up but there is a long way to go and a few other teams may yet have a say on who will go up. In the GFA there is a good chance BSXI will win another trophy and Woodlands and Santos may well join them. In the cup it is likely a winner from Woodlands or BSXI will win as where in the shield BUCU will be difficult to stop. 2008 brought us some memorable moments what will 2009 bring? |

BSXI EYING FINAL AFTER WIN AGAINST SEYMOUR. |
|
| BSXI won impressively against Seymour Utd to make the next round of the GFA cup and keep their treble dream and keep their chances of back to back GFA trophies. In the only other GFA game Thornbury lost narrowly 1-0 against St Phillips. Woodlands managed to sneak a tight win against big rivals Counterslip winning 2-1 and Santos beat Mendip 2-0 in a replayed game. | |

In the days other game Widcombe moved onto the same points as the top two with a 6-3 win against BUCU who are now rooted to the bottom | The Sanctuary pulled 4 points clear of SAS after a 5-0 win at Bristol Pistols, a Joe Lee penalty, Justin Watts, a double from Ricky Bush and a debut goal for Luke Southcott grabbed the points for The Sanctuary.
