THE BCFA CHRONICLE AUGUST 2008

REDSHAW AT THE DOUBLE AS SANTOS SLIP UP

2 GOALS BY NATHAN REDSHAW AND ANOTHER BY DAN FLYNN EARNED A COMFORTABLE VICTORY AGAINST THE MUCH FANCIED SANTOS. BS4 HAD TONNES TO WORRY ABOUT AS THEY LOST 10-0 TO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS BSXI. HOLDERS WOODLANDS HAD TO RELY ON PENALTIES AGAIN AND THE HANDS OF TNS TO BEAT A STUBBORN SAS WHO THREW AWAY A 2-0 LEAD IN EXTRA TIME. THE SANCTUARY MADE THE MOST OF HILLFIELDS EARLY MISSED PENALTY AS THEY RAN OUT 3-1 WINNERS TWO LATE GOALS FROM MARK AND NIGEL CANCELLED OUT RYCROFT'S FREE KICK EQUALISER. WIDCOMBE W REIGNED IN THE DERBY BATTLE THUMPING CORINTHIANS FOR SIX 6-2. KENSINGTON BAPTISTS WON ON DEBUT WINNING 3-2 AGAINST WELTON WHO ARE STILL TO REGISTER A WIN IN 2008. NEW BOYS BRISTOL PISTOLS WERE GUNNED DOWN 8-1 BY CHRISTCHURCH.

THORNBURY SINK OTHER BAPTISTS

A 10 men Thornbury showed their experience to win the first Battle of the Baptists Tournament winning all three games. Counterslip came second with two wins and Hillfields Beat Bs4 in the final game to claim third. The was controversy in the final game between Thornbury and Counterslip as Thornbury's winning goal was clearly offside, unfortunately the counterslip linesman was warming down and missed it. A draw would have handed Slip the tournament win. It was well organised and worked as a good warm up for the season.

HILLFIELDS WIN 2008 NAILSEA CHARITY CUP

Hillfields took advantage of the absence of previous winners Counterslip to win the Nailsea Charity cup. Hillfields won the tournament without losing the game and even knocked out their 2nd team in the Semis. Hillfields beat Widcombe C in the final on penalties 2-0 after a 0-0 draw. Penalties from James Corfield and Darren Quarterman clinched the victory as Widcombe failed to register. BS4 impressed losing the shield final to Nailsea Maestros 3-1. BS4 were the only team to stop winners Hillfields winning a game and also scored the only goal against them.
